Requirements and Guidelines for Performance in a Master Class

Application:

-Eligible YOBC students must submit an online application by the deadline date.  Applications submitted after the deadline cannot be considered.

-Performers will be selected from all eligible applicants

Repertoire:

-You must select a solo work to be performed that is 3 to 5 minutes in length.  The work may be a complete solo, a movement or portion of a solo.

-You must seek guidance from your private music teacher in selecting and preparing your solo.

-You must include your solo choice on the application form.

Preparation:

-You must carefully and thoroughly prepare your music with the guidance of your private music teacher.

-Good preparation should include listening to recordings of your solo so you understand how the solo line fits with the accompaniment.

-Failure to properly prepare your music may result in disqualification from performance at the master class.

Accompanist and Music Submission:

-YOBC will provide a piano accompanist for your performance at the master class.  In addition, you will be scheduled for a 20-30 rehearsal with the accompanist prior to the master class.  You are required to attend your scheduled accompanist rehearsal.

-You must provide an original copy of the piano accompaniment and a copy of the solo part by the music submission deadline.    Please mail your music to YOBC c/o Mrs. Sweetsir, 111 Pheasant Run, Suite 100, Newtown, PA 18940 or give your music to Erica Cherry at a YOBC rehearsal prior to the music submission deadline.

-If you only have a copy of the accompaniment part, you may submit a copy, as long as you provide an original copy prior to the accompanist rehearsal.  Please email Virginia Glatzer at manager@yobc.org if you need to make another arrangement.

-Please ensure that your name is clearly written on the front of the music.

-If you will not be performing the complete solo, please indicate the portion of the solo to be performed on both the solo and piano accompaniment parts.

-It is important that you submit the accompaniment music by the deadline to ensure that the accompanist has enough time to learn the music.

-All participants are required to attend the entire master class.
