Tours & Field Trips

In addition to the annual fall, spring, and Pops concerts, YOBC also offers two kinds of concert trips to its . In past years, a one-day field trip was organized, at little or no cost to members. The participants played a concert in the morning, and engaged in sightseeing or a cultural activity in the afternoon. Past concert venues included historic Penn Ryn on the Delaware, at the Old Post Office in Washington, DC, and in New York at St. Peters Church, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty.
In recent years, YOBC students have been able to participate in a low-cost trip to the Kimmel Center to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra. YOBC usually secures seats in the conductor’s circle so students can see the orchestra as a working ensemble, and watch the conductor from behind the musicians. The concert is preceded by a meet-and-greet with several of the musicians who answer questions and discuss they music they will be performing.
On even-numbered years, YOBC members, alumni, and parents have the opportunity to sign up for a 10-day international concert tour at their own expense. Below is a list of the destinations to date:
