This is a reminder that any Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble brass, woodwind and percussion students who wish to be considered for placement in the next ensemble for the 2020-21 season need to request an audition by March 15th.

Fanfare Winds and Symphony Orchestra students do not re-audition. Your placement will remain the same.
String students do not have a placement audition. You will receive placement recommendations from YOBC conductors following a year-long evaluation.

Details can be found below.

Information About Next-Year Placement for Returning YOBC Students

Dear Parents and Students,

Each year at this time, we like to provide students and their parents with information about our placement process for next season.   There are many factors involved in the placement process, and it differs by instrument and by ensemble.  There are two possible placements.  Students may be placed in their current ensemble or moved to another ensemble.  Since most students spend at least 2 years in each ensemble, both placements are common.  Our goal is to place every student in an ensemble which will provide the best possible learning experience.   For more information please read Ensemble Placement Guidelines and Ensemble Prerequisites.

Please Note:   Our placement process has changed for Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion students in Wind Symphony or Wind Ensemble.  For complete information, please read ‘Specific Placement Information’ for Brass, Percussion, and Woodwind Students below.

If a student does not request a placement audition, they will automatically be assigned to their current ensemble.

Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion students who have requested a placement audition will be notified of the results by May 8th.

All String Students will receive placement recommendations from YOBC conductors following year-long evaluation as described in the General Placement Criteria section below. Students and parents will be notified of ensemble placement for the next year via email by May 8th, prior to registration. There are NO re-auditions for string students.

Specific Placement Information

Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion Students in Wind Symphony or Wind Ensemble who wish to be considered for placement in the next ensemble must request a formal placement audition.  Students should carefully consider the general evaluation criteria above as well as the specific Band Placement Guidelines listed on YOBC’s website, and then consult with their private teachers to determine whether they are ready to request a placement audition this year. The Audition Request Form must be electronically submitted by March 15th.  Placement Auditions will be held on April 19. (If the number of requests require us to add a second day of auditions, they will be held on April 18.)  Students and their parents will be notified of their placement via email in May, prior to registration.
